Zdenka Trvalcová

Slovak singer Zdenka has lived in Prague since 2002. Right after completing her studies of classical singing, Zdenka started to perform in Prague musical theaters. For her future career, an essential part was the title role of Edith Piaf in the musical „Edith Piaf – the sparrow from the suburbs“. She became an enthusiastic francophile, and added classic chansons by Edith Piaf to her repertoir, as well as many other famous French songs.

In 2010, she met the accordionist Michal Mihok, and they formed together the VOILA! band, whose nontraditional arrangements of famous French hits have been supplemented by their own original songs.

Even before the release of their debut album, VOILA! received the Český tučňák (Czech Penguin) award for young promising artists. Thier Debut album Décollage (2014) confirmed that the award was fairly received. Especially the song "Flip Flops", which fought its way to the top of Czech Radio 1 and Slovak Radio FM charts and has achieved great success within a wide range of dedicated music fans. The band performs regularly in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They are currently preparing for a joint concert with the famous French band, Paris Combo (FR), while working on songs for their new album.

Zdenka continues to perform traditional French chansons in her solo concert program, "La Belle Vie," and is working on an album with the same title on which she sings French chansons mixed with gipsy swing. Accompanied by excellent musicians: accordionist Michal Mihok, guitarist Tibor Žida, and violinist Nina Marinová, Zdenka presents famous French melodies from the whole of the 20th century. The audience will enjoy not just chansons from the amazing Edith Piaf, but also songs by Django Reinhardt, Serge Gainsbourg, Lucienne Delyle, Desirless, and others.

Zdenka still performs in Broadway musicals as well as in another project called “ Tango Underground Fiesta,” dedicated to Argentinian tango.
